SYE and Driveshaft questions.....
i have a 97 jeep cherokee xj 4 door automatic 4x4. i just purchased a advanced adaptors SYE kit for a 231 TC. Making sure this is correct before purchasing one. I was told that i can use a front driveshaft for the rear driveshaft after installing the SYE. So just making sure if i order a front driveshaft ( same as whats in front connecting front axle to Tc) it will work for rear as well?? any help will be appreciated. thx

Yes you can use your front driveshaft in the rear. And don't bother ordering another one. Just buy a used one locally for like 50-60 bucks. Just make sure the u joints and telescope are in good condition .

Also, you can't use just any front driveshaft out of any XJ. Some are different lengths due to powertrain options.
In your case, you will be fine with using the 4.0/AW4/231 front shaft for the rear. I'm at 6" of lift and am currently running a front for rear...until I get my Tom Woods rear shaft extended another 3". (Hm...things that sound dirty but aren't.)

I'm having kinda the same problem...... I installed the Rusty's 8.5" LA lift, with SYE, & now I need a driveshaft. I kinda want to find a used one in the JY or something like that. I've heard that the Grand's driveshaft will work...... Any suggestions????

Good luck... at that height, you are not likely to find a JY one that will work. Your best bet is to measure and have a custom one built for you.

Any other opinions? Worst comes to worst I'll have to buy a Tom Woods one or something like that. Just wanting to know if anyone else has suggestions. Thanks!!

So I guess I'll be looking for a Grand's driveshaft, then....... A buddy of mine with a similar lift has that shaft on his as well...... We'll see what happens.

Well, have a buddy that has a machine shop, and for a couple bucks, he extended a front DS about 2" for me. So far, no vibes and seems to work fine!!! I know that this is only a temp fix, but for now it works!!!

Go to the JY & get a XJ front & take it to a driveline shop & have it retubed.Cost like $100 or less where I live.
