Default SYE AND Driveshaft

I have heard that guys run a Front drive shaft in the rear with a SYE.

Whats the scoop on this and who is doing it and how well has it worked.

A lifted XJ at 4.5" < Would a Front Drive Shaft work with a SYE on that?

Please chime in. I would like to know.

Its true, and what most people run. my last jeep had this set up with a ranger yoke to mate with my 8.8 rear. I have an SYE kit and a XJ front shaft ready to go in my current jeep when ever I get around to it.

Have you already taken measurements? I have heard of guys with auto's doing it, but you are the first 5 speed guy I have heard of doing it. What year did you pull your donor axle from?

I haven't taken my measurements yet. My last jeep was also a 5spd with an AA SYE and an 8.8 out of a ranger (explorers are better tho) it used a crudely extended front XJ ds in the rear when I bought it which I ultimately ended up breaking. I replaced it with a v8 zj front shaft which is 2 inches longer I believe. This time around I got IROs hack and tap style which came with a new ds for about $200 so well see how that goes.. I'm still nervous about cutting my output shaft lol

newbie too:
if i get a 4-6in lift i need to get a SYE correct?

And with a SYE a new rear driveshaft is needed to correct the difference in length from transfer case to the axel?

Does a transfer case drop kit reduce the need for a SYE with a lift?

what does a transfer case drop kit include and how hard is the install?

Thanks

i have a 99 4.0 that i just bought:

-the rear lift is only a new shackle adding about 1.5in lift and an add a leaf adding about the same.

-My front is 4.5 inches so i wanted to replace the rear leaf packet with a 3in lift packet until i buy a whole new kit.

-I am worried though riding this high of a lift without doing any mods to help the new angle on the transfer case.

-i plan on getting a long arm kit in about a year so i dont want to change much except the height difference and my rear shocks sometimes bottom out since they are for a 4in lift.

Im sitting at a 6inch right now and dropped the t case one inch also, but the U joints are still rubbing, was at the junk yard today and found a front DS from an Xj and was thinking of going with that and an SYE. But if you say the v8 ZJ is 2 inches loner that might be the way to go. So I was wondering if you installed it yet? I'm looking to do mine this weekend. Thx in advance man!

Default SYE with 5spd trans

I heard also that a front DS would fit, so I installed the SYE and when I measured the FDS it was 4" too short. I was going to have the FDS rebuilt anyways with new U-joints so I had them lengthen it and rebalance it.
I think if your running an auto trans it may be long enough already.

oh and my SYE was from Advanced Adapters

i have an ax-15 tranny when did my sye and drive shaft i pulled one out of a zj. compressed from u joint to u joint it measures around 32" also running a 4" lift in the rear. it works perfect for me. if you are going to run a lift 6" or + then need to look into a zj front ds. however the correct xj fron ds will work up to around 6" lift depending which one you get
