Hey guys, I know there are a lot of SYE threads and questions out there, but I have a couple of questions I'm not finding answers for. I just lifted my XJ with a RC 4.5" x-series lift. I have decided to not run the TC drop and will do it the right way and go with an SYE kit. I came across a deal for a Crown Automotive SYE kit with driveshaft included for $375 (cheapest I have seen). Has anyone personally used an SYE from Crown? How was the quality, durability, any issues, etc? The link for this kit is below.

I'm also unsure whether to buy a used front driveshaft from an XJ (I will go with one that is closest to the length I need) and swap in new u-joints and anything else it needs or just bite the bullet and buy this kit or a Tom Woods driveshaft. I really don't want to spend the $500, but if there are potential issues with the other route I will pay the extra and be done with it.
Sorry for another SYE post, just want some opinions from personal experiences.
Oh and I have a 4.0, auto with the NP231.

I considered it but for the extra $100, I'll save myself the trouble of cutting the output shaft and drilling & tapping the hole in the shaft. I've heard some horror stories on how difficult it was.

It's really not that bad. With the shaft spinning, the cutting and drilling is easy. Then it's just tapping a hole, use more oil than you think you need and clean the tap often and you'll be fine.

I would not use Crown for something like this. They can be hit or miss on quality. You could try the HnT and if it doesn't work out go big and get an Advanced Adapters HD shaft.

My mind is set on just getting the SYE and not doing the HnT. For me it's worth paying the extra $100. I'm just trying to decide whether to run a front XJ driveshaft or buy an aftermarket.

When I installed my SYE I also bought a driveshaft online from a driveshaft shop seller on eBay for $199. The quality is fine with large Spicer joints and made for my XJ.
Sorry I can't help you with the SYE your asking about but I also didn't want anything to do with a Hack an Tap.

I have a NP242 so my options were limited. I used Tom Woods 242 HD which is made by Advanced Adapters. I would use Advanced Adapters again if I ever lifted my other Jeep which has a NP231. Personally I would not use anything from Rugged Ridge (Omix Ada) or Crown for something like this. I asked about the front driveshaft on the rear some time ago and found that many people do it without any problems. I had heard good things about Tom Woods so I used his since I was buying the 242HD shaft from him anyway. It is not that hard to rebuild a front driveshaft. I did mine for $106 using all genuine Spicer parts.

Cool, I appreciate the input guys. I think I'll go with Advance Adapters for the SYE and swing by the JY and get a front driveshaft and start rebuilding.

I can't remember the brand on my SYE but its a name brand. I bought it when a member here posted a link to it on eBay where they had 6 of them for sale NIB with warranty for $99 shipped. I bought one ASAP the poster went back to get one and they were all sold he didn't get one. Mine sat for a while but I knew that I would need it shortly in 5-6 mo. and knew the price couldn't be beat.
