Hey there guys. I have two XJs. A 1999 and a 1992. The 92 is a manual the 99 is an automatic. I am curious what I would need to swap the engine from the 99 into the 92. I am putting a stroker in the 99 (no core charge) and want to rebuild the 99 engine as the 92s engine is over 200,000 and has a few leaks/slight tick. Plus the few extra hp would be nice. Being as most everything from the 99 is going to be transplanted to the stroker, all Ill really have is the engine itself, the TB, the ac (moving alt up when I do stroker) and that's it. So If possible, I would like to know which parts I could use from the 92 engine or If I just need to buy everything from a part out of a 99+. THanks! I searched but did not find quite what I was looking for.

 

Treat the swap as a "longblock" swap, using all the externals from the 92 and you'll be fine.

 

You'll also need to tap something for that in-dash temp gauge. 1992 uses a separate sensor for the PCM from the gauge, 1999 gets its info via the PCM and only uses a single gizmo.
