Meh, you got your money's worth.

Rebuild the Dana 30 with the majority of your old D30 parts and you'll be good.

Think you can get a dremel in there to cut on the c-clip?

The brass c clips are pretty dang hard metal...might go through several dremel bits, but worth a try though. I've tried everything else I can think of to get them out!

Easy 8.8 Kit arrived from Serious Offroad. Very stout kit indeed, thanks again Serious!

Hmm...found this bumming around Google:

fought this for about 4 hours, with just a millimeter short of getting it out, but finally noticed that the ABS ring was hitting the speed sensor. When I took off the single bolt on the back side, the obstruction came out, and let the axle move another 1/2". Then it was ridiculous easy.
Gonna have to try this after work tomorrow.

So close...I estimate I had another 30 minutes of grinding...but alas, lightning and grinding axles probably shouldn't mix. Here is what I have done so far:

Using a Dremel, I tried to slice through the actual C-Clip...but only made it half way through before I started to cut into the axle shaft.

Next, I said "Screw it!" I was trying to save the mini-spool so I could sell it, but I decided I don't want this to happen to someone else! So, I started tediously grinding the sides down. This is not easy to do in the carrier! The combination of cutting the C-Clip and grinding the mini-spool seems to be working. So very close to having enough room to pull out the C-Clip.

Oh...and this is just for the drivers side.

From the looks of it, this guy probably figured out he should grind the C-Clip before installing on the passenger side. Looks like he BFH'd the drivers side into submission.

Victory!!!

Well, one side anyways. The other side doesn't look like it will be as bad. Except...I have to grind with the wrong side (Ring gear is in the way). But, it works.

At any rate...victory on the drivers side!

Had to clean up the garage today, in doing so I made some room on my workbench. I tossed the D30 carrier up on the bench and took a good look at it under the light. This thing is pure junk...the spiders are all worn down, the ring looks to have a good deal of wear. So, I'm giving up on the idea of using this LP D30.

I'm trying to determine if I can use this axle while I regear my current D30. Can the D30 be run without a carrier? I'm talking about to work and home each day for a few weeks. This is obviously a long way away from happening, but just curious.

As long as you have stub shafts properly installed, sure.
