Default Subwoofer placement and advice

Hey guys,

My subs currently look like the attached picture (two 10" Type-Rs in a ported box). Is this the best placement for the subs? When I'm sitting in the back seat or am standing behind the trunk, the subs sound clean and accurate. When I'm in the front seat, though, they sound sloppy, inaccurate, and muddy. Is there a better placement option I can use in order to make the subs sound better? Also, would there be a huge difference if I sold one of the subs and got a stealth box?

Maybe get a sealed box? Ported boxes always create to much garbage noise IMO. I have 2 12'' kenwoods with kenwood amp and sealed box and it sounds super clean. Also make sure your gain isn't turned up too high. Oh yea, mine are facing the rear hatch like yours too.

I have 1 JL 10" in a sealed box facing down, bridged on a 1000w amp. Hits hard. I prefer down facing subs because you get less echo, and a lot less exterior vibration. I hate noisy license plates!! Lol

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Also, they're each only getting 225W RMS currently, so going to one sub sealed wouldn't overpower the sub, and I could get a smaller box for more cargo space. That seems to be the way to go to be honest, though I'd like some more input.
