A stock 350 in most cases was not stronger, or even as strong as a stock 4.0. I know it sounds silly (v8 vs inline 6), but look it up. Our 4.0's are not exactly weak. now built? that may be a different story.

weren't built for it no. but I wasn't being sarcastic, or argumentative... I was being serious. in the 80's and 90's our 4.0's actually put out more horsepower and torque than alot of the v8's available at the time.

well u want to get the bock cleaned and inspected by an engine builder first to make sure that its not cracked already, if its good to go, get it bored out 0.030 or 0.040" and put some new pistons in, ur guna want a new cam, i know that Comp has 7 and one of them is specifically for fuel injection, the next big hard to find parts (if going cheaper and used) is the 4.2L crank and rods, make sure u get the crank inspected by ur engine builder to make sure that its not bent, cracked or both (i had both), once it checks out, then get a complete head and valve job or if u want to go nuts, get a 3 angle valve job. u would also need a new timing chain, lifter, oil pump, and whatever goodies u want

you're going to have to do the math and figure out your static compression ratio, and adjust accordingly. Once you've had the block cleaned and decked. you may have limited piston options, or have to have some material removed from the tops of the pistons to be able to run on pump gas without pinging.

If your engine builder is worth what you are paying them, you shouldnt have to figure jack. Write the check, tell them what your intent and planned use is for the engine and have them call you when its finished. We do all of this for our customers. SCR and DCR, piston and cam recommendations, etc. I'm not advertising for anyone, just do your research.
