I did the stroker, 4.7, i paid about 3, but i went all out with high end parts and stuff. Mine passed smog ok, but not as easy!! I get about 17mpg, but i havent upgraded my injectors yet, so it is runnin pretty lean right now. Great power though, wish i could tell you exact specs, but i'm sure someone will chip in!

you'll need the crank and rods from a 4.2 and I think some .40 over pistons for the 4.0. The type of pistons you choose depends on the cam and how far you deck the block or mill the head. Most of the time people are having to have the machine shop remove some metal from the top of the pistons to get the compression ratio low enough to run pump gas. you will need the upgraded injectors... lean conditions are bad for motors, especially ones you just put a couple grand into.
or do it this way. but this guy didn't seem to gain much power wise :\

now will my stock d35 axles be able to handle the power? I already planned on putting an 8.8 out of a ford explorer. I her its straight bolt up, stronger, and also disc brake conversion. But id like to not have to changethe front for a while

I did the 8.8, Not really a straight bolt up..gotta weld new perches and shock mounts, and you can get one with disc brakes!! It is an easy little swap though!

In my opinion, an 8.8 is way better than a 44 as far as strength. Plus 8.8 are out there everywhere, and i got mine for 150 at a jy with the disc brakes. Now if you wanna go full width, 2 44's arent a bad option, or even a 44 and a full width 8.8 which are a bit harder to find...It's all just what your preference is

Pain in the butt, stroker is easy, wont have to mess with adapters and all that crap. Aaaand a 4.7 belts out just about as much torque as a 350 i've heard. Anyway, i just think its a perfect way to give some power to ur XJ

im working on my stroker project right now, still need some things from my engine builder like the crank and rods. but he did the motor a year ago and im guna be using it pretty soon. it got bored over 0.030", Comp Cam. i still need the double roller timing set, roller rockers, hi-flow water pump, new pushrods, injectors and a mean green alternator
