Read a lot on ALL the forums about what header is the best. It seems like the one everyone is after is the APN because of the price. Once I found that out I started to research the APN header and I ended up finding that some people have a problem with it fitting the 99+ intake. My reason for a header is my manifold has cracked like they usually do in the same spot and I figured if I'm gunna change it I might as well get something out of it rather then just going with a stock manifold. I will also be doing the motor mounts while I'm down there.
My question is for the APN header do the holes line up where they are supposed to on the engine block and how much of the intake do I have to grind off. And if anyone has ever used a different header that fits perfectly with no grinding. And for the record I don't see the reason for spending 400 on a header. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks
FWIW, if you buy a "cheap" header, expect cheap results. You gotta pay to play.
I got the stainless steel ceramic coated header from Gibson. Yes it was expensive...around $500. However, I have been pleased with the performance, and had ZERO fitment issues. Let me add, that I lost the CARB sticker that came with it, and when I went to smog, they said they needed that number, so I called Gibson directly, they talked to the ref, and sent me a replacement sticker free of charge, and that satisfied the ref, he passed me. So +1 for Gibson customer service.
BTW, this header replaced a Borla, that was guess what, cracked at the collectors...the Gibson is very well made.

I have a Banks on my YJ and a Gibson on the Xj and had both ceramic coated..I also had the intake ceramic coated at the same time.
I ran a cheaper header once that had fit issues and tried another cheaper header later and had issues with it.. Do what is within your budget and needs...
Engines are pump suck blow... So look at the gas and air coming in and going out. If you are replacing due to a bad OEM, go cheap if you will be doing the complete system spend your $ on a well designed dyno tested higher quality one.
The cheaper does the job for 99% of jeepers ..... My yj is ported, polished, balanced, roller rockers, head was matched to the header etc....hence the better quality one.
I put a cheap Speed daddy header off of eBay on mine. It lasted for a few years and was fine when the motor went out. It cost $140. I did have to "massage" the runner nearest to the firewall but it was very minimal. Well worth the money IMHO. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one but there is no love for the RENIX Jeeps. LOL
I got an apn header for my 99 Cherokee. No problems went right in. Haven't had it in long enough to tell about longevity but it's been like 4 months with no problems.
