I am debating on removing my carpet in my xj because it sat and leaked. Is there anything a should know? Has anyone done it? How does it look and will the center console rattle

 

Lots of folks have removed the carpet.

My console doesn't rattle but then again it wouldn't matter if it did since the road noise is so much louder.

You can remove it and bed line the floor or you can buy replacement carpet kits.

 

Ok I think I'll take it out today and start stripping down the paint/rust.

 

A bottle of fabric softener exploded in the back of my XJ when my wife and I moved recently.

Something heavy shifted and fell on top of the bottle of Snuggles.


Now thats all I can smell in the damn thing. Its better than some smells it could have.

 

Same here while doing laundry this Friday. Now my passengers say "Is that lavender I smell?" Lol

 

I had a BIG bottle of wine bust in the back of my car once. It took lots of scrubbing and soaking to make my car not smell like I'd be drinking like a fish.

Funny. Wifey was trying to put a laundry basket in her TJ with a full bottle of detergent on top. Just as I turned toward her I saw the jug go right over. She was struggling to get it in with the rest of the crap in the back of her truck. Bottle hit the floor, burst open and spewes half out.

After getting it all covered by floor dry, I step away to put the floor dry cup back where it goes. I turn back around to face her again...and what do I see?

She's about to do the same thing. Exaclty the same thing.

I snatched the bottle out of the basket. Total facepalm.

replaced mine about 2 months ago. take your time when cutting the holes, proper hole placement will make this job 1000000000000000000 times easier.

 

Ditto, make sure you let the carpet heat up before you just go throw it in there(there are directions that come with it or on their website).

Like he said TAKE YOUR TIME. I got frustrated and messed the back end up, also a good *clean* rubber mallet to give the carpet a gentle nudge when it gets tight.
