Hey everyone. I'm trying find a good steering upgrade for my rig. I have a 95 XJ with 6.5" rough country lift with spacers on front. I still have stock steering tie rod and drag link and want to upgrade to sold tie rod 1 ton steering. I've seen other rigs with the jcroffroad kit, rustys, and currie. I want to stay away from OTK. Anyone have any advice on who to get from? Ive seen reviews that like and dislike that style.

JCR makes a UTK kit. Their stuff is real beefy.

I have their OTK kit waiting to go on.

I know someone with that setup and I liked the price and looks beefy. So JCR would be a good option for that lift height? I don't want to ruin my new tires I just slapped some 33" Mickey Thompson baja mtz on it

No idea what your steering and suspention setup is or looks like.

So thats hard to answer. Steering geometry is important.

you need at least an OTK steering setup with that much lift.

You have 7.5 to 8.5 inches of lift and WANT to keep it under the knuckle? In all honestly you should be looking into a highsteer setup at that height. Heck, most people don't even run dana 30s at that height. Or 33s at that height. If you are dead set with keeping your lift height and tire size i would look into the jeep grand cherokee wj crossover steering swap.

I saw 6.5" with spacers and figured 4.5" spring and 2" spacer totaling 6.5".

Yeah, at that height OTK is a good idea. The angle of that drag link has gotta be killer.

not trying to hyjack this thread but in same boat. i have 8in RK long arm lift and steering parts are toast.

1 to answer his question i am leaning toward serious offroads (frank was very informative when i talked to him and super cool dude, the kind of guy you would want to wheel with not just buy parts off of) tie rod set up. and doing it in OTK setup.

2 but now im wondering if i should do wj swap. price for price i will be close to the same. but will using the wj parts do me justice and allow my jeep to not bind up steering parts.

also before people start getting all antcy in the pantcy saying its too high i know its big but i got a deal on the original jeep it was on.also fat chicks cant jump high enough to get in so its good to keep em tall.

A few people here are running ORO uturn style steering on they're jeeps including myself. I've got 8.5/9 inches of lift and it is solid on and offroad steering wise. Very responsive. Also no deadspot.

you can see my steering on my pics. I was looking at that JCRoffroad 1 ton setup. my suspension is a 6.5 kit with 1.5 spacers on front to level it out. i already have a new pitman that lowered my draglink. i really like the idea of solid tie rod.

I am at 6.5 and I have the iron rock off road over the knuckle kit but i mnow uou daid you eanted to stay away but I have had zero issues no dead spot and pretty beefy.

the JCR kit doesnt have a solid tie rod. not many kits do actually.

I make a OTK steering setup. 7/8s ruffstuff heims and 1-1/4 solid hex steel tie rod and drag link. Comes with all 5/8s zinc plates grade 8 hardware.
