I have upgraded all of the steering, Rusty's Jeep XJ-TJ-YJ Tie Rod Conversion. I have put new steering pump and steering gear box on the XJ. The front end is aligned and, the tires are balanced. I have put a Rusty's XJ Cherokee Long Arm Upgrade on the Jeep. Drag link is where it is supposed to be. I have replaced all bushing on the Jeep with Daystars super kit bushing. When I go down the road all it wants to do is wander back and forth. If, from a stop, I step on the gas the jeep wants to go to the left and, if I hit the brakes hard it wants to go to the right or left. What is making it do this? It is getting hard to keep it right now. HELP!!

 

Did you do anything with the trac bar or did you leave it as is?

I had the same type of issue with mine. Check how your front differntial is angled. Mine was tipped foodstuffs forward. Had to adjust upper control arms. That would be my guess. Prologue isn't the tracbar cause that just moves front axle from left to right. How much if a lift. Have u looked at draglink angle that may be an issue as well pics may help a bit more.

 

It sounds like your Camber angle is off. That have you also checked to see how much play is on the steering???

also. rusty sends out cheap crappy tie rod ends with his steering upgrade kit.
i ended up replacing all my rod ends with moog and also sleeved both the drag link and center link with 1 9/16 dom. makes it stiff and not flex. what a difference.

 

The trac bar has been adjusted, I will have the Diff looked at again but I was told it was fine, I will have another shop look at it. I will post a pic tomorrow.

 

im having the same exact issues and have replaced everything as well. im running 6.5" and 35s. the play in my wheel is like no other.

 

To the OP: how high is your lift? common issue is that the father the drag link and tracbar is from parallel, the more play it will have in it.

Plus a lifted jeep will drive like a lifted jeep, not a caddy

 

I know this is not and will not drive like a Caddy, this is not my first jeep it is my 9th one! I have 5.5 inches of lift and I am running 265's. Sorry I didn't get a pic, day went bad for me quickly, I will have one tomorrow!

 

I think the ball joints are new, I will recheck them. I think the next thing to do is check and reset the caster.

toe should be 0 to 1/16 and the left and right durring stops sounds like brake issue to me...

 

I've heard a lot of people get some pretty bad steering loss using that rusty's setup. Most research I've done into steering says mimic the stock steering with stronger components like the ZJ upgrade or the currie correctlink setup. Also there is the ironrockoffroad type setup but I've heard a lot of people say to stay away from that kind of joint for steering unless your only offroading.
