Steering Control-lack there of
I bought a fella's Jeep project. Problem is that it will not go straight without constant counter steering. I put a new 6 1/2" lift trac bar along with a new drop pitman off the steering box. Tightened up the steering box at the adjustment screw w/ jam nut on the box. Replaced the flat (no-arch) rear leafs & block with a fresh XJ pack combined with a Dodge Dakota pack to get her level at 6 1/2's of lift. The front alignment was done with a tape measure (always has worked before). Axles look to be adjusted properly - in line with each other (not doglegged). The shocks are crap and need to be replaced.
Rear weight is a big issue. My junk out of rig = less counter steer. My junk in rig (250-300 lbs) and she's a battle to go straight. I look like a bad drunk weaving back and forth. Currently not driving rig because of handling problems
Any ideas as to what I'm missing here. Looks like I bought a problem. Any advice as to what might be causing this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, 44 Dan

Check the ball joints, you're dealing with "memory steer", meaning something is binding up and keeping the wheels pointed at the last direction they were steered towards. Tightening the steering gearbox adjuster will make it even worse.
