Ok so lately my jeep hasent been starting for crap. I go to start it and it just cranks, never starts, I turn it off and try again, it always starts on the 3rd try. But never anything sooner. If I turn the key on, then off and do that 3-4 times, it will start right up. Once it gets going, it dogs down though for a min or so then runs just fine. Does this every time I shut it off, and go to re start it. Would this be all fuel pump??

 

what year jeep? sounds like the check valve is shot, common problem on newer XJs. just leave the key in the "on" position for 10 seconds or so before cranking it.

 

This or fuel pump. Take it somewhere and have the fuel system tested to see how much pressure you have.

 

its a 98 sport. Where the check valve? We did plugs yester day and it started a little better but still has some problems starting. Dosent take 3 times, now only 2 lol

 

I have a similar issue but mine doesn't sound as bad as yours. check valve is in the fuel pump assembly, and unfortunately if it is the check valve you need to replace the whole thing. test your fuel pressure with the ignition on and then turn the ignition off and if the fuel pressure drops dramatically it's your check valve.

 

FWIW, mine cranks for a little bit unless I pump on the gas.. I also turn the key to turn the pump on, then off, then on and it starts up. I've been trying to narrow down the issue. I've replaced the fuel pump (happened with the old one) but I replaced it with an Airtex, so that might be the issue..
