Default spring/coil lift vs. leafs

which is better for a 91-96 cherokee?
4.5 inch lift on 33's
terrain will be the rubicon trail.

what are the pros and cons of rear leaf springs?
is it common to have springs in the front and leafs in the rear?

Leaf springs are simple, and hardly ever have problems with breakage. They are not as free moving as a 3 or 4 link setup and usually can not flex as much. Leafs feel a bit more stable (in my opinion) on off camber situations. leaf springs are better, or easier for towing/loaded situations.

Coils are more complicated to setup, cost more to create the suspension. They are less limited in total flex, they can also be more fine tuned then a leaf spring setup.

I personally like having leaf springs in the rear. when they are properly setup with a good shackle angle, proper length shocks a leaf spring setup can operate very well. I would leaf the stock setup coil front leaf rear, and take it out and see for your self. everyone has there own opinion on this topic, but ZJ's, with coils front and rear makes me feel tippy a lot sooner then in my XJ...

ok thats pretty much what I was assuming.
I just want to go hit some semi-rocky terrain i.e. rubicon trail
will a good leaf setup handle it?

yeah, leaf springs can take you anywhere a coil setup would. may have to take different lines but they both work well when setup correctly.
