Before going through all that trouble I would call the manufacturer and ask.

You are first person I have heard say they had issues. Not saying you did anything wrong, just seems odd out of the hundreds.. if not thousands sold, you are the first person to have an issue on install

Sorry I left you hangin last night. We had a stormy night and I got hit by lightning while I was typing my next response. I know your'e only allowed so much space in the locker, I'm sure you already checked that. I didn't have any of your issues but mine did rachet loudly a lot when I first installed it. I swithced over to Lucas 140w which quieted it down a lot. One of your brake calipers wouldn't be stuck? Do you have the disengaging front end on the 98 by any chance?

I don't know if it's possible, but did you get a locker for a high pinion, reverse cut D30 and stuff it in your low pinion, standard cut D30 or vice versa? I don't know if that's possible or makes a difference, but I thought I'd ask.

Well, it's possible that one bad product made its way out to the shelf. I wouldn't say give up on a company because you've had one bad experience. Nine times out of ten, you'll get an excellent product. I would call them, verify everything is as it should be and if you have to send it back, bargain with them for a discount on a replacement unit. Spartan is a great company, so I'd be willing to bet they want to keep your business and they'll work with you on this.

sounds like it needs a little break in. I would try some 75-140 gear oil I have a lock rite in my rear and what your describing is exactly what my lock rite did untill i put 75-140 in. I have the spartan in the front and mine was real stiff and wouldnt unlock right untill I drove it for awhile now I dont even hear it up there now the lock rite on the other hand it will let you know its there every once in awhile

Man!! I wish I knew. I'd call tommorow, that's a lot of work for the front end. Just seems odd that it will work one way and not the other. If I think of something else I'll post back. Keep us posted, especially if they tell you the problem.

Love my Spartan and I will NEVER buy another lockright. Had them in my yota and the springs never lasted a year and they unlocked on side hills. I put one in my front 44 when I first built it and it lasted 3 trips. It's sitting in the garage with several teeth broken because two of the springs broke. Cost me a ring and pinion because of the metal floating around in there. Spartan is loud but works excellent. Lockright wouldn't warranty mine because of my tire size.

Maybe a stupid question, but are you testing it on dry pavement or off road?

I'm still learning but isn't the 231 part time 4WD only? Couldn't that mess something up on dry pavement?
