Spacer size with stock rims

Spacer size with stock rims
We are doing an RE 3.5" lift kit on our 00 XJ and looking to save a few bucks by using the stock rims with 31X10.5 tires or possibly a bit taller. I am wondering if a 1" spacer (4.25" BS) is enough or should we go with a 1.5" spacer (3.75" BS)
