Im not sure were to post this. But here goes. I just bought a 96' four door sport. The po did alot of things to it. Some have me scratching my head. I dont have alot of experience with lifted vehicles. But this just doesnt look right to me ive searched alot threw a lot of pictures online and nothing looks close. Whats wrong with this driveshaft?

The rear driveshaft uses a slip-yoke on the transfer case output. That transfer case is missing the rubber boot that is supposed to protect the slip yoke. It also looks to have a pretty bad seal leak.

Is the jeep lifted? Usually the slip yoke is "eliminated" and a fixed yoke is installed along with a double-cardan driveshaft (like the one on the front)

yeah I'm fairly certain it has a three inch lift on it. I bought the Jeep in Tennessee and I live in Michigan I had my cousin go look at it for me before I went down. I had really wanted one for a while. My biggest concern was rust everything around here is a rust bucket. my cousin told me that there was a drive shaft and another part laying in the trunk when he looked at it I'm assuming it was they were the stock parts now on the jeep and the guy took it off to sell it separately. The po also neglected to tell me that it had a newer motor in it. It also has a maual valve body in it that I like as well just wish I could switch it off so the old lady could drive it.

So you can get an idea of the lift....

Not necessarily. Usually need to convert when you start getting vibrations from the steep drive angles, but if you don't have any then you are fine with it. Actual lift amounts vary tremendously based on weight (esp bumpers and other heavy armor), how long has it had to settle, etc, while 3" on stock jeep might actually come in at 4-plus and start to have vibes. If you feel something, you can pull the rear shaft and drive around in 4WD to test it but you will have to plug the output to keep from losing your fluid.

that's pretty much what prompted me to look under the vehicle the whole entire hatch of the Jeep was covered in what I think was trans fluid. I do get vibrations at about 55 miles an hour but they're not always there I assumed it was because the tires are not in the best shape.

I bought a seal for it the other day but it is metal and the one that is installed seems to be rubber.

Yup that is the factory slip yoke driveshaft. Basically when detached from the diff, it just slips right out.

Personally, I would just go ahead and order a SYE and be done with it.

Jeep looks pretty nice other than that!
