Default Smittybilt CO2 Tank Experiences?

I'm looking at throwing this on my Christmas list:

Smittybilt 2747 Power Air Tank with Regulator and Fittings - 10 Gallon Capacity by Smittybilt
Amazon.com: Smittybilt 2747 Power Air Tank with Regulator and Fittings - 10 Gallon Capacity: Automotive Amazon.com: Smittybilt 2747 Power Air Tank with Regulator and Fittings - 10 Gallon Capacity: Automotive

Have any of you guys used this one? It looks like a good deal at a good price...

Seems $$$ to me. I got my CO2 stuff second hand. I love it though, way nicer than OBA

They don't call boom 'em tanks for no reason... I advise against it and put the money towards OBA either from the AC compressor or a VLAIR constant duty compressor.

I've been keeping an eye out for a used one, but haven't had any luck.

As far as fearing these things... I'm not the one. After running nitrous in my daily driver and working on CNG vehicles for a living, CO2 is child's play

You have my warning. Whether you choose to head it or not is your decision lol. I just know the onces that claim to hold 1000psi... not the case. That SOB took off like a rocket. I still stick with the VLAIR because it could have many other uses.

I could see why you don't like them! What brand was that tank?

I think it was a smittybuilt. Wasn't mine. Went off in the back of a open top YJ thankfully lol. All I'm saying is that if you dive in, don't believe the PSI rating.

Build it yourself for cheap. I got a free bottle, bought a new Lincoln gauge from a welding supply store for $90, had the bottle filled. I got a 3 foot hose for airing up tires. I think I aired up 3 or 4 times & the bottle was empty. Probably had a leak.

I thought it was great until it ran out of CO2. Then it was useless. I suggest OBA.
No more filling tanks.

They do have some scary PSI. I think the bottle I had was rated around 3- 4K PSI.

I've used CO2 for many years and it works great but that kit is way high. My regulator, which I remove when I'm not using it just to be safe, was 80 bucks and it's a nitrogen regulator that'll flow 5000 psi. My bottle was 50 at Airgas, 20lb, and cost me 15 bucks to swap it, I don't reuse them so I don't have to pay to get them recertified every couple of years.

$15 for a swap is pretty cheap. I might consider that route. I'm a sucker for things that don't rust, so that's why I was looking to own a tank instead of the exchange. The fire extinguisher place is about the same distance as airgas, so from the travel standpoint it would be about the same. I'll look to see what nitrogen regulators are going for now.

I like the nitro ones because they don't freeze up as fast. You buy the first tank then just exchange them when it's empty so you still own it. To bad you aren't closer I've got 6 in my garage.

They are heavy and you'd come out cheaper just buying one. Just an fyi my 20lb bottle will fill my 38s from flat to full 40-50 times. Air tools will drain one fairly quick but they kill a compressor too. I have a 40 gallon compressor and if I need to use an impact I use CO2 because it keeps pressure till it's empty unlike air tanks.

I got mine from the local Pepsi bottler, I can't remember the cost now this was many years ago. He supports us and swaps them out for 10 - 15 bucks.
I had one pressure relieve valve go off when the tank was over filled, but since mine are in brackets it didn't go anywhere, and they replaced the relieve valve and refilled the tank for free.
I use a 20 foot air hose with a valve with gauge and a 4.5 foot hose to the air chuck, so my tank is mounted all the time unless I pull it out to help someone reseat a bead.
