Single E-fan upgrade
Ok. First off, I AM NOT GOING TO A 2 E-FAN SETUP. I only want to upgrade the existing e-fan. I ran across this link http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...lectricFan.htm , but was wondering if there were any other fans folks have swapped in as an upgrade to the existing E-fan.

its my understanding that folks ditch the clutch fan and add the taurus fan. not as a swap for the existing oem e-fan

That's what I did to my ZJ, ditched the engine driven fan and swapped in the Taurus fan. Best mod I have done other than the long arm lift.

Just MHO but I think that I would want both on my XJ just in case the electric fan were to quit or lose an Alt. the std. fan/clutch/electric fan combo could get you home.
On my race/hot rods I run all electric fan, water pump, very large fuel pumps. That with high capacity light weight batteries but they are on the street or track and not off road so easy to get to be able to tow if something fails. I know how well the electric fans work its just the little extra the stock setup gives for off road.

I guess is didnt make it clear in my first post. I do not want to get rid of the stock clutch fan. I want to upgrade the existing a/c electric fan and KEEP the clutch fan

What do you think you'd be gaining by upgrading just that fan? It's programmed to come on at a certain temp, or when ac is on. It's not worth the time or effort to replace it with something bigger. If you want to upgrade it tap into it with an "on/off/on" switch.

If you're having cooling problems then upgrading the e-fan will not help your issue. What is your reasoning behind wanting a better e-fan? That will help us answer your question.

^ I agree ^
My stock setup works fine on the trails even with the AC on doesn't overheat. I have stock OEM radiator, water pump, fan/clutch this is one of the OEM AutoZone $100 radiators.

Before i lost my fan shroud, even with all new cooling parts and a flush, it still ran warm(220-225) climbing our passes(start at 3000ft elevation, climbing to 11,000ft in 15 miles)

A fan shroud is not going to fix your high temp issues unfortunately. Upgrading the cooling fan will not accomplish much either. It sounds like their might be an issue with your cooling system if it frequently runs at those temps. What all parts did you replace when you say all new cooling parts? Did you replace the t-stat?

I don't even run a clutch fan and my coolant never goes above 210 unless in bumper to bumper traffic. I rarely have to use my dual e-fan setup. Their is an issue somewhere in your system.

I agree a fan shroud can make all the difference, and it sounds like you took care of all the important stuff already. But tinkering with the small efan isn't going to affect anything. Is your engine high mileage? Maybe it has sludge somewhere. And you got the right rotation water pump?
