Right. However the current owner didn't put it in and has never done any off road. So I'm not sure he knows anything. I will find that out when I meet with him. Perhaps I can get the name of the PO and see if I can contact him.

This Jeep also has Rock Sliders installed so it has some great potential if I just knew drive trains better.

Take it to a shop and have them pull the differential covers off and confirm ARB's are installed and what the Gear Ratio before buying it - These axles are almost $2000 of the value of your Jeep, I personally have been told a jeep had Detroit lockers front and rear, before buying I jacked up the front and it was NOT locked, but the rear was locked, BUT ended up being Welded when I got home and pulled the cover. Fortunately I bought at the right price and lockers were going to be a bonus in my mind.

Yes 3.55 gears with the ARB's would make them worthless and that is the most valuable part of that XJ but only if it has 3.73 gears or higher so you could run a larger tire.

A 2" spacer lift (in coils) and a 31" tire has them maxed out now should be a 4.10 gear for the 31's. Most run a 33 or 35" tire on their XJ's and a 3" and up full coil/leaf lift with shocks and all hardware.

Ford 8.8s don't have a carrier break so he doesn't have to worry about that if the gears are 3.55, also a manual transmission swap would put you right in the correct ratio for 31s" with 3.55s, since 5 speeds come with 3.07s stock it would probably be a lot of work however

Well I looked it over good and it is a nice set up. However, there was plenty of rust on the underbody and you could poke a finger through it. It was advertised in caps NO RUST. I really don't think he knew how bad it was. I am not a fabricator and don't want to mess with rust. Anyway I passed and from all you guys told me, I recommended he sell it on Ebay. Actually the set up is really not necessary here in South Texas, Ebay should get him better prospects. Anyway, if you have any interest it may be on ebay real soon. Red 1996 Cherokee XJ 105K miles. Thanks guys for all the suggestions and help with this. I learned a alot also. Sandyman
