Shocks for 4.5 to 5.5
Listen kid,
I was trying to get you pointed in a better direction than you were headed in your other thread.
If you want to waste your time and energy on adding an unneeded plug to your diff cover...knock yourself out. If you had a lick of common sense you'd whip out your Googler and do a little research and you'd find plenty of low-buck solutions to adding a stronger cover to your axle that would provide you with greater protection and the filler hole you're so desperate to have...even though it's totally unnecessary.
Want to buy elsewhere....good for you. But based on your posts so far you won't buy anything from any one because everything is overpriced.
Yes there are low-buck options for just about everything, but apparently not low enough for your needs.
You really should own an economical car and not a Jeep.
No need to reply, I think you and I are finished.

I'm sure to hear you tell it your a jeep God, sure are quick to let someone know what they do and do not need, did I mention anywhere that I was doing a lot of off roading? So why do I need such a tuff diff cover? Maybe this is a daily driver ever think of that mr sales kid. Before your so quick to let someone know what THEY need maybe you should assess the situation a little further. And just for the record I have googled and looked at the option of buying a diff cover, I DON'T NEEEEEEEEEEED IT. And yes we are done with this bs, so if anyone knows or wants to answer the question at hand feel free to. Thanks

You can get "white body" (hydro) shocks from places like rusty's or quadratec for ~$30 ea, probably cheaper. They will ride decent enough and save you some cash. If you decide to increase your budget some, I would also look at the monotube shocks from Rubicon Express. They are quite a bit more, but they are very good value.

To address your original question... It looks like stock JK shocks are ~22.5" extended. For 4.5-5.5" lift on an XJ, you will probably need closer to 27" extended length.

And also, cheap and best don't go together....so just go buy yourself a set of $30 white bodies. I'm sure you can find a set of blown ones on craiglist for $10, that might be more in your budget.

Lol wtf? At first you said you purchased an aftermarket diff cover, atleast that's what it sounded like to me. Now you're saying you don't need one and that Frankz was trying to sell you a diff cover? He was trying to point you in the right direction on a quality shock to buy and that you should rethink your priorities reguarding buying fancy diff covers over shocks.

You obviously didnt read the other post that has become the topic here on this thread. This is what the post said about the diff cover, Has anyone found a good way to add a fill plug to a stock 8.8 diff. I'm trying to save money and not by an aftermarket on. It says STOCK!!!! And frank hasn't said anything about a shock except a link to buy from him.

i had an 8.8 under a tj i had for a minute, i tried the same thing and could not figure out a way for the life of me. also i'm not one to bash people or anything like that. but i must say this forum really has become a lot less freindly than it used to be. and i must say that frank is an incredibly nice guy who helps many poeple on this forum. the link he showed you was for billstein shocks, yes it was his site. but that would be a great place to order them if you wanted them. his information is generally unbiased as well. the guy who posted before him also said bilsteins and you didn't flip out on him. and to be honest, i bought some cheap shocks for my 5.5in lift and i now wish i had saved for billsteins, they really do make a noticable difference. on and off road. so frank really was trying to help. that being said, frank also overreacted with the whole "listen kid" post. as for your shocks, if you really want to go the cheap route, just look online for the cheapest shocks that are around 16in collapsed and 26in extended

this thread is awesome.
the best bang for your buck shocks will cost you ~70 bucks a shock. anything less pretty much isnt worth the money in my opinion. but what do i know, i spent over a grand on shocks.

but since you seem to hate him you can also buy them here:
http://eshocks.com/bil_ORsb.asp?Seri...tein&SubChar=Q
or RE monotubes. a little less per shock i think, about the same ride quality.
