Default Shift problem help?

Well my problem is at times when the auto trans goes to shift, it will like jolt if i let off the gas. It normally happens from 40-45 and then i just let off the gas to slow down or something and then jolt Like its slipping or something. Im not sure. Now i bought it and i haven't done any fluid changes... should i do a full fluid change? If im right on the Auto trans you need to un screw a few bolts and let the Auto trans fluid leak out ? correct? then replace the filter and fill it back up. Is this correct? My grandpa said it might be my carb that is running to rich. is that a possibility?

Check your tranny fluid while hot and running. Should be nice and pink with no smell of any burntness and in the right level . Try shifting the tranny manually from 1-2-drive if you have OD and see what that gives you.

If your slipping in between shifts thats not good.

If your gonna try to change the fluid -take all the bolts out except for the 4 corners.

Loosen slightly 3 of them and see is fluid starts coming out.

We usually use a huge 3'X3' pan -if the fluid (gasket holding it to the tranny) is not coming out -loosen and take out the 4rth corner bolt and pry it down a bit just so the flid starts coming out. Then you can loosen the next closest bolt -this way U kind of funnel where your fluid is gonna go fron a corner of the pan-loosen the others but do not take out til the pan is at about 90 degrees and most of the fluid is out.

Take remaining bolts out and drop the pan. leave your catch pan underneath.

Check the bottom of the pan for metal or build up (friction material) the cleaner the better-if you have alot of build up in there that will indicate some wear.

Clean a metal screen filter -change a paper one. Get a good GASKET-NO CORK.
