well you need pinion bearings thats the whine... i have had u joints get angry just changing the angle of them.try changing them.. you shouldn't need an sye but i did a rough country 4.5 past spring for a customer of mine that was a lot taller then my 4.5 so you may need one

get urself 1" square tubing cut two pieces the width of your tc crosmember support tc remove bolts on oneside slide in squaretubing (after u have drilled the two holes in each ) replace bolts and repeat the other side that should be a farely good fix on the tc sye but the whine i would agree to change u joints bearings n seals new fluid done n done, hope that helped

The newer xj's tend to get driveline vibes with lower lifts than the older ones. My "3 inch" lift on my 2000 caused vibes (It actually sits around 4" in the back). I put a t-case drop kit on mine that solved the problem. I am going to do a sye, but I have a few more pressing things to take care of before I do it. I would say that is likely the cause of your problems. If you have the cash to do it, put on a sye. If you are a bit strapped right now check quadratec or someone and grab a t-case drop. It's not the "correct" way to fix the problem but, it will get rid off your vibes and you can add the sye when funds allow.

Tom Woods is the only company that makes a legit SYE (new tailshaft) for the 242. That's where I got mine from... Great quality, but a tad expensive. Then again, doing things the right way usually is expensive. But you get what you pay for...
