Default Screwdriver in ignition

Does the old 'screwdriver hammered into the ignition switch' trick work on my 1994 cherokee country? id like to know before i destroy my ignition switch for nothing. thanks!!

It'll wreck a good screwdriver. The ignition switch is down the column under the dash.

correct me if im wrong, but the ignition switch is where the key goes and is definately not under the dash

in my 93 saturn:

lost key and had to have ignition pulled apart so i could use an alternative instrument to start it. it all came down to this, the switch:
the little slot in the middle of housing is where end of key sits and it needs to turn to engage ignition. so rip it apart till you have access to this guy. my .02!

Here is your ignition switch.

Which is under the dash on top of the column.

This is your lock cylinder.

There is a rod inside of the column to connect the two.
