In my opinion 4.5" is the tallest you should go on short arms. At anything above 4.5" your LCAs become so steep that it severely limits suspension travel and will ride horrible.
If LAs arent in the budget then you can always go with CA drop brackets..
Can I ask why you want to go higher anyways?

Google this. There are thousands upon thousands of threads about lifting these things more.
Go to lift it up so you can look cool at the mall and hit some sick mud holes.

I'm sitting at about 5.5 - 6 inches of lift with short LCA's on 33's and am considering dropping an inch. I don't like how tipsy it feels when getting off camber on the rocks. Last weekend while off-roading with OCC (Off Camber Crawlers) my daughter and I almost flopped it twice.

IMO short arms should top out at 4.5"
That being said the XJ i just bought is at 6.5 and short arms..but it has drop brackets so its not AS bad

You would be fine sticking with short control arms; the ride will be a little stiffer than if you had long control arms though. You can always switch to a long arm system in the future. If you can go long or short today though, I'd vote for long.

I'm going long arm at 4 1/2" want to keep it as low as possible, from what I've saw on the trails the higher the lift the more problems in my area of mountains, hillsides, off camber, shale rock trails on hill sides easy to tip at times.
If you go 3 link ... The truss is a good idea, but ditch the drivers side arm and upgrade the upper link to use LCA sized joints, and build a new mount off the truss o the passenger side where there are less issues to get around (fuel/brake lines, drives haft, exhaust).

Like so. Uses all the same 9/16" bolts, RE large joints, and bds 4.5" Springs with roughly 1" spacers.
