Rough Country Series 2 3" lift, bushwhacker cut outs, and other Q's
Hey guys, I'm new to the site and have tried posting this in the lift and tire thread twice with no response. Please help!
Fixing to install a 3 inch Rough Country Series 2 kit with full leafs. I am also installing Bushwhacker cut out flares. Sway bay Quick Discos are in the near future as well. I was able to pick up the lift brand new for $200 and the flares used for $125 on Craigslist.
My question is, with this combination, what is the best tire size to go with on some black steelies that will prevent rubbing, let me flex out the suspension, yet fill out the cut out flares in a respectable manner?
Also, will I need to do a Transfer Case drop and Pittman Drop for this kit?
Will I need extended bumpstops? If so, what kind is best (links would be great).
And anyone have any feedback on how the kit is?
Thanks for the help. College student on a budget, just trying to feed my addiction.
Really enjoy this site!

31 x 10.50 or 32 x 11.50 would be fine for tires.
You don't need a pitman arm drop until you are over 6'' of lift, you never need a transfercase drop, but you may need a SYE. You'll know if you have vibration or binding at the shaft once you instal the kit.

I'd say stick with the 31" for now. Less taxing on the whole system. Little if any trimming, and tires are cheaper up front, and if you need to replace one should something go wrong.
Just remember as a student...keep your priorities in order. Don't get yourself in a situation because you spent ANY money on a truck. Colleges arre raising there prices like crazy....on an average of 8% per year!

I run the same lift with 32" km2's, stock flares, and a different front bumper.
I plan to trim the fenders and 1/4's instead of running aftermarket flares.
32's on a 3" lift is perfect with a little trimming and fitting.

Colleges are raising tuition like crazy. However, I am fortunate enough to be on full scholarship. The PO already hacked the flares so I needed some to match. I'll probably go with 32's I guess, already have a set of those through a friend. Any recommendations on spacers for the wheels though?
I really appreciate all the input!

I would go with 32s yes you will need a tease drop or a sye. I would suggest the sye. The tease drop is bad for motor mounts and our xjs already have weak motor mounts.

I'll plan to go with the sye, the tcase drop will be temporary. Also, the tires I have are 17" with moto metal wheels. I have a set of steelies but am looking for some 32's on r15. However, I'll always be able to get take offs that are 32 r17 from new jeeps. So I'm in a dilemma.

With the cut outs you may wanna run a backspacing around 3.65....i run a 3 inch and bushwackers with 31's my DC2's have a 3.65 inch backspacing and sit flush with the outside of the flare....4 inch backspacing may suck the wheel in a bit more and look kinda funny but that could just be me

If you go with spacers...recommend ones with hubcentric design. Spidertrax seems to be the popular ones (from my research so far, and what I bought). Rims with the proper spacing is always preferred though...over spacer use.

I was in a similar position as you (looking at 3" lifts and trying to stay on a budget). Go for 32s. If your flares are gone, you'll be able to fit them, and they'll look better. Ditch the wheel spacers. Seriously. You're gonna want new wheels eventually and then you'll have to pay the mounting fee again. Just bite the bullet and get em now.

Ive had one set of spider trax spacers for over 5 years on 3 different XJ's. Never a single broken stud, nor any damage on the trails. I beat up my jeep quite often but I always make sure to take care when i take off and install rims to prevent damaging any of the studs.
4.5" lift with 32" tires. I love the spacers.

32's or 33's, 31's will look crazy small under the BW flares IMO. I run 5.5" lift, BW cut outs, and 35's. 33's should be great with 3" and bump stopped.
