The only rust on my XJ is the roof rails/gutters - they have small patches of surface rust up and down each side. What is best way to refinish these? Thinking of masking above/below the whole length and sanding down to bare metal, then repainting with a black etch/seal paint.

Thoughts?

I use these for my Yakima roof rack, so I want them to stay nice & solid for years to come.

If this is the case and it were mine I would take it to a body shop and have it done I'm would think they could do better longer lasting job and cost should be minimal depending on how good you expect it too look.
