Default Renix HP D30 or Late model HP D30?

Hey guys, I have the opportunity to get an HP D30 for free but it is from an 85. Meaning it has the vacuum disconnect system. Obviously, I would remove all that and swap to a single piece axle shaft.

I was told that the axle would be weaker than a later model HP dana 30, because of the housing. Is there a difference? I have yet to see any info/comparisons from forums.

Thnks!

Some people say the vac disco housing is stronger due to the thicker casting in the area, other's say the non-disco axle is stronger. In my experience, they're both similar enough in strength to not worry about it, especially if you're going to a one piece shaft right away. If you plan on trussing it, you might run into more problems with the vac disco housing. Just keep in mind the Renix axles have different brakes/knuckles, so you'll have to address that if you're swapping axles (either swap knuckles, good opportunity to do ball joints, or use renix calipers/pads)

What gear ratio is that 85 axle?

Might be 3.73 or 4.10.

TAKE IT!!!!

It is definitely worth the money

My 85 is a 3.73, too bad the rear is a D35. Odds are good it will be one of the above ratios.

Will be regearing the axle to 4.56 so stock stats dont really matter. It will be coming from a police interceptor XJ though
