Default removing coils with stock bottle jack...

so im going to be doing an ACOS install soon and would like to see more on how to use the stock bottle jack to remove the coils.

i get the idea, but not sure where exactly to place the bottle jack. obviously on the top of the axle, but what part of the unibody/frame does the top of the jack go?

or would using the bottle jack on the ground forcing the axle end up work as well?

anyone have any pics of this being done? i do not want to use a coil compressor.

thats weird because from what i have read online about it is that the bottle jack method is quite simple and safe and that the compressors can actually be quite dangerous...

Sorry i cant be of any help...free bump for you

When i did mine, i removed my swaybar links, disconnect my LCAs (axle end) and Trackbar (axle end) and was able to drop the axle low enough to slide out the springs.

I would say simplest way would be as above, disco the trackbar, LCAs, sway bar, maybe pull your calipers so you do not over extend your brake lines.

I have always Put 6 ton jack stands as far forward on the uniframe as I could an still get a good bite . I would keep a 2 floor jacks under the axle raised but not enough to lift the Jeep off the stands, An would remove the upper shock bolts, LCA's Tracbar, Draglink, Driveshaft then lower the axle an slide the springs out put the new in

i've used the jack stands and hang the axle as low as i can get it, then use a floor jack to jack up one side of the axle, while having someone stand on the end of the axle that i want to remove the spring. i usually still need to use spring compressors to get the springs out, especially back in when using a spacer/acos.

I vote for the drop the axle method, I always go that route, just did it last week when I installed my 4.5 coils, but if its your first time and dont when the last time anything was removed start soaking everything with pb blaster and let all sit for awhile before wrenching

Axle drop method. trying to compress springs never seems like a good idea.

I replaced my 3" coils last weekend with 4.5" coils. I took the upper shock bolts loose, took the trackbar loose at the axle end, and removed the swaybar quick discos. This let the axle droop far enough to get the 3" coils out, but I had to use spring compressors to put the 4.5" coils back in. If I have disconnected the LCA's, it is possible that I would not have had to use the compressors.

I use spring compressors. Compressing springs is dangerous. Using the correct tools properly make it safe and simple.

Agreed! When I changed mine I dropped the axle and used a compressor cause the spring was so damn big lol.

True. Improvision may work for some things but please don't cut corners on this. You can rent the proper tool from an auto supply store like Autozone or Advance Auto. As previous two posters said, Be safe about it.
