Hey all, winter is approaching. The lady hates the cold in the morning and so does the Jeep, I want to get her a Remote Start, and possibly hook it up for keyless entry. I am looking at the "Avital 4103LX Remote Start System with Two 4-Button Remote" -Crazy deal on Amazon right now.
I will install this on my own, and have types in several sites with the search and found no write-up for a 2000'ish XJ for a Remote Start and Keyless Entry (Door Locks) Installation. Could you all help me out or point me in the right direction?
Also, she has black keys (no chip) so I don't need that 2nd piece of hardware to bypass the non-existent passive alarm right? Thanks!

Well that's a major bummer, I have not purchased yet. $36 down from $199 though is tempting... Made by the same manufacturer for Viper Alarms.

I just installed a Bulldog RS1100 remote start with keyless entry in my 96 Sport this past weekend. It was $50 on Amazon. I used the CHR-1 T-Harness also from Bulldog which was $6 on Amazon. It plugs into the steering column wiring harness. (You would use the CHS-2 T-Harness for a 2000 XJ which is $7)

The total time was 45 minutes to take apart the lower dash panel, probe the wires to confirm the circuit, plug in the harness and brain box, test and clean up.

I am not sure what makes an Avital more difficult to install than any other system but I would recommend it. I hate Amazon and they are probably not authorized to sell them so Directed probably won't warranty it if there is a problem but its the most reliable stuff out there so I wouldn't worry to much about that. If you are installing yourself and are not 100% sure of your install capabilities that could become an issue. All Directed brands are built to install the same (Viper, Python, Clifford, Avital) so they use industry standard wiring colors and install is pretty simple. As far as cars go it does not get much easier than an XJ, no immobilizer, MUX BUS locks, etc.
I worked for Directed for a long time and they literally own the remote start market (like 60% market share when I worked there 10 years ago) so it is tough to go wrong with the most popular system out there. Easy to get parts, easy to get service and the wire colors have been the same for 20 years.

I have this one. Took me about 2.5 hours to install. Works very well, and has a number of auxiliary outputs that I plan to use later to control my off-road lights remotely. I really like the fact that the remotes have a durable metal housing, and the polished chrome look is pretty snazzy.

How did you make out with the install of the remote start? I have an 01 and installed the Avital 4103 I have everything working except the locks. I can unlock and start no problem but I cant always lock it. Did you need to use relays? So far Ive figured out that the avital brain puts out negative on both pins. Ive got my lock on orange/purple and unlock on pink/purple.
