So I've got a 98 and 99 both XJ sport models. I recently picked up two remote start with keyless entry setups. Both jeeps have keyless entry factory but only the 99 has remotes. Anyway I am going back and forth on the install if I want to do it myself or just pay someone to do it. I called two local shops and they both told me I need bypass modules. Here is where I am confused in that everywhere I look up online it states I don't need bypass modules for these? Anyone that has installed in an xj please chime in let me know if it really was a headache or not? and also did you need a bypass module. thanks!

 

Mine has remote start, I didn't install it some previous owner did or had it installed anyway, I don't think you need a bypass my factory keyless entry still works and the remote start works.

Well I got it installed and everything is working except one minor thing the parking lights.
Two things everyone should know...
1. If you have the black keys you do not need a bypass module at all
2. You will need to wore up relays if you want the box to control power door locks.

Anyway I wired up the parking light circuit correct but the system does not turn them on when it is remote started? I know it's a minor thing in the grand scheme but would be nice. Any input is much appreciated

Also the unit is an avital 4103 lx
