Default regearing for 33s

i know EVERYBODY says, oh, 4.56 gears for 33's or at least 4.10. and i can understand 4.10. but 4.56 just seems like a really freakin tall gear for 33s. runnin a 96 d30/chry8.25 with 3.55s right now on 33s. only regearing once so im workin on gettin all this business straight. She is my daily driver and will be on the highway. can someone tell me what gas mileage you can expect with 33s and 4.10s/4.56 or better yet, what you tack on the highway. a mechanic told me 3.73s would be best for what im lookin to do. leaning towards 4.10s but still not sure. and how does each gear effect torque. bear with me, im new to gears

I THINK 33's and 4.56's is about stock! Could be wrong! My .02 on the matter is (and it's tough if your DD) that 4.56 is a good minimum starting point if your on 33's. Cause when you say "forget this, I want 35's!" those 4.56's might not be enough for ya. So plan ahead, as best possible... and know that 4.88's will give you tons of oomph on 33's and once again put you close to stock on 35's... Like I said, just my .02

I am in the same boat i have a 4.5 on 33 and currently lookin for 4.10 gears they say 33 go 4.10 35s go 4.56. I agree with the guy said go big so if you decide to go bigger.i had 35 s and hated them so i know i will be staying with my 33s. Best deal for 4.10s is like what i am going to do. Find a explorer with a axle code d2 it is a 8.8 rear with limited slip and stock 4.10 also get disc brakes from it. Then you just have to regear your d30 to match.

If those are real dd's then I don't want to know what you get for HWY MPG's. And I thought smoking was expensive. LOL

to stay at stock gearing with 33's you will technically a 4.24 gear. which doesn't exists so thats why you get so many guys leaning towards 4.56's. and 4.10's in my opinion would probably be a tad bit under powered. me personally im saving up for 4.56's, i would rather have a little more umph in my rig than be under powered.

I ran 4.56's 33's, it was great. I was running about 2400 rpm at 70mph, about 2300 rpm at 65mph. loaded up with gear and spare, camping stuff tools ect it was great having the 4.56's. I was getting about 16-17mpg at the time.

Now that I have 35's I wish I had 4.88's so it felt like it did with 33's lol. But I am happy with my 4.56's.

IMO going from 3.55 to 4.10 isn't worth the money in gears, bearings ect install/time. Go with 4.56's for 33's. 4.88's for 35's.

Not as much as you think. I could/can get tires spinning but it wouldn't win a burnout contest, you want the gearing to compensate for all the added rotation weight. Big tires create a lot of drag and traction. It wasn't a race-car feeling at all. but made freeway on ramps and passing at freeway speeds a lot more enjoyable. to me it brought back a lot of the pep they have stock. but the weight is more

In 4low is where the real TQ showed its face. 4low is a lot more touchy and low end then it was with 3.55's.

I get about 10 right now with my 33s and stock 355s and i just bought my wife a 06 jetta and steal it as much as i can lol 10 mpg and 17 miles one way to work sucks lol. Btw my buddy says he gets about 17 with 456 and 35s. So you figure 33s on 4.10s be close to that right

my big thing is that shes a daily driver for about the next year and a half, so gas mileage is more of an issue. i know that sounds like pissin in the wind but till i can do her right with all new beefy drivetrain parts in two or three years, shes gonna have to sit on 33s till then. i travel in the mountains alot so, with these stock gears and 33s, im terrified how shes gonna get up afton mountain on I-64 haha. anybody else have highway rpms and speeds for 33s and 4.10/4.56 gears? or gas mileage. getting her back to stock mileage and power is really all im looking for
