***REAR END MAKEOVER***
Okay so my 99 Cherokee has a 4.5 lift that is just a 3inch block with a 1.5inch lift shackle and with that has made my leafs lower then flat. My idea for renewing it all consists of the links below. Putting together all the links into what they will be doing is removing my blocks, stock leafs, sway bar, stock leaf perches, the stock shackle mounts, and stock shock axle mounts. Then putting in a 5.5 lift leaf spring(2.) under axle using the ruffstuff product(3.) with the no lift shackle relocation bracket(1.) and finally for the shock setup use the crossenterprise hoop(4.). Plus the grand Cherokee disk swap while I'm at it(5.).
The top is my stock setup. Once everything is done I should yield the same size lift even with the leafs being 5.5 and have 7inches of suspension travel or so? Red is lift height.
I also would like some opinions on the shock hoop, I have looked it up and only found threads on which to pick out of the hoop and tower. Sense I will be removing my sway bar, the hoop will work perfectly.
Over all, how does this look? Is there anything I am missing to make this work? Any suggestions on improving this would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I think you are overthinking this by...a lot. There is certainly no need to go under the axle??? If you want 4.5" of lift and the best ride/flex, then get some 3" leaf springs, a 1" shackle and some shackle relocation brackets.....and then you're done.
The reason I thought of this concept was because this is my daily driver but definitely a weekend warrior. I have the back full of tools, recovery, subs, spare, and jacks weighing it down quite a bit and later will have a rear bumper with tire carrier. Sense I wanted more flex in the back but keep the lcog, I removed the sway bar making the back end feel like a boat from all the weight above it. So if I were to put the leafs under, it will have a tighter feel in the back because the weight from the rear is connected under the axle instead on top. I like the idea because it sounds like it could work and is unique. But if it won't help at all then, whatever, ill do it the simple way but as you can tell that's not my way of thinking. Honestly if it works just as fine as the simple way I might still do it this way as long as it works.
Definately not worth the work. You're going to lose some ground clearance first of all. Relocating the shock mounts is a good move though. But I drive mine 300 or more miles a week with no front or rear sway bars, hilift, spare tire, sockets, strap, tools etc etc in the trunk and it's smooth. Full 4.5in BDS kit with 3 inch leafs and 1-1.5 inch shackles. With a good set of leafs you won't have to worry about them flattening for a long *** time. Save the time and money and put it into something else
Well thanks for the input, I guess ill go with the 3in leafs. Any suggestion for strong ones but still really flexible? And the input on the shock hoop?
Afraid I can't help you with any of the advice you're looking for. I will say, though, that that shock hoop looks really interesting.
I wonder how high you'd need to be lifted before that really became worth it though. Where's the line of demarkation between the stock shock mount location and needing to angle them significantly?
Best leafs are going to be old man em, rubicon express, bds, Clayton to list a few. I'm very happy with BDS, on and off road. No sway bars on road and drives solid, great offroad, more on the stiff end I would say
