Default Recommendations?

OK i have the engine out of my 94 cause the rod on the #6 piston is in pieces. i am almost done with the tare down and i need to think about parts. I know i need at least 1 new piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft. I have my still "running" 87 that i can pull stock parts from if i need to go super cheap but i really would like to know what you guys recommend as far as upgrading the internals. do these have a forged crank and or rods already? how strong are the stock parts, if they look great can i reuse them and still count on getting +300K on this rebuild? I am gutting this Cherokee down to nothing and rebuilding / upgrading everything i need to. however funds are "slow" coming in so i would like to save $ every where that i can safely do so. I have a little over a year to get this ready for a 25K mile trip (Detroit to Buenos Aires,Argentina THROUGH the Darien Gap) and if i can keep support going i will continue on further. but back to the question if i should upgrade the rods do i need to upgrade the crank? and where is the cheapest place to get forged internals?

If the rod is really in pieces, I would personally just get a new engine. The rod pieces could have scored the crank or damaged parts of the block. I have an engine sitting at my place right now where two rods broke and scored the crank back and put three holes in the block.

I am rebuilding the engine. the cylinder walls are smooth as glass, the block looks fine. it seems that was a relatively simple failure. yes the crank is bad, but i have one in my still running 87 that i can take if i want to go the very cheap route. My question was whether or not it is worth spending the money to go the extra above stock. What are people's opinions on whether should get forged internals and or what is the cheapest way to upgrade?
