Default Rear Shackle Angle?

Hey folks, I just installed a Shackle Relocation Kit from Rough Country. I've read several posts that the rear shackles should have about a 45 degree angle. The position I installed them at is exactly 45 degrees. But the shacke his against the hanger bracked (touching) as the picture below indicates.

I seems to me that this would be a bad thing. Installing the kit as it sets gained me 1 3/4" of lift. I'd really don't want to gain more than 2".

If I move the shackle to the next hole back my shackle angle is only 20 degrees and I get about 2 1/8" of lift. What are all of your opinions on this, leave it like it is or move the shackle back to the next hole?

I just moved it back one hole for now. I have longer shackles but they'll probably lift me more than two inches. I may try them later.

I also have the RC relocators. I have them set the same exact way. I also have 1.5 in shackles that fixes the rubbing issue but they hang way too low for me. Anyways, I am using the stock shackle and what I did is cut a bit of teh relocator out / shaved the bottom of the relocator where the shackle hits it at compression. That helped.

According to Rough country its not compatible with stock shackles.
Just got done doing the homework on this, mine are on the way.
And it does appear your springs are shot, I'm sure thats not helping.

That sucks because if you use longer shackles you will get more lift and not everyone wants that. In my case I am already a bit to high in the rear so using a longer shackle is not an option. I removed a leaf from my leafpack for a while to use longer shackles but I got axle wrap more often and actually snapped my shock, plus they hanged down below the gastank skid. So I had to trim the relocator bracket where the shackle hits. Now I wish I would have gotten the 3 inch leafs.

I used MJ shackles on mine with stock springs, not too much longer than XJ's. I don't have a ride height pic but I've got more room to swing. It's bolted in the same spot, but I think I'm gonna move back one hole for a little more lift.

I think your leafs are shot, that is part of the problem.

I lift shackle will not necessarily lift your rear much higher. You are trying to accomplish more angle so it you are only gaining a fraction of the height the shackle is advertised for.

When I did my RC shackle boxes I used 2 inch lift shackles. I probably only gained an inch of height. I could probably adjust it to sit maybe a 1/2" lower if I wanted to.

45 degrees is 45 degrees, no matter what leaf he uses, the stock shackle will hit the bracket. If you get different leafs and put the shackle at 45 how would that help him from hitting?

Because think about it, if you have a non-saggy leaf, it's going to try to smile more, which will put bring the leaf spring eye forward more and the angle will be more vertical.

I just put mine back in this week and I put the angle just a little too shallow. I have to correct it, but I'm using RC's lift shackles.

I'd like to NOT gain 2 inches in the rear this time. I hate that rake effect and going too high will just strain the driveshafts more.

Cut the back of the bracket off where the shackle hits and call it a day.

Send them back and get some zero lift relocation brackets and longer shackles.
