Rear quarter panel armor
Hey guys, been looking around a bit and not really satisfied with what I've found on the topic.
Looking to get some rear quarter panel armor in the near future. I'm not very knowledgeable on fabrication so here's where my question lies...
Does it need to be contoured to the body or is straight steel ok? Don't have a lot of money to drop right now and I was getting my front bumper and sliders powder coated and wanted to throw these in as well. I have contacted a few different places that make them and the ones selling the expensive rolled ones say you can't put a straight one on and vice versa. Was looking at these from Down N Dirty Offroad and they assured me the straightness wouldn't be an issue. Should I go with it or wait to save for the higher priced ones? Anyone have any experiance with using the straight ones? Any input appreciated, thanks

I would not buy that stuff from eBay period. My choice would be for a curved rear on it because of the chance of backing into a tree and having it caught on the edge of the panel pulling it up and away from the quarter.
On all my armor I use a heavier thickness of metal for it also.

They just sell through ebay. They're a small shop out if Pennsylvania I believe. Checked out their website and Facebook page and it had some of the most mixed reviews out there which is why I asked. I found some curved ones from Ares fab that I like, they're local to my area so might take the drive and just buy directly from the guy. Thanks for the input, was leaning towards passing.

The one you showed isnt as tall as the rest and the rub rail is to low to do any real good.I would say up and buy better made ones that are longer like jcr off road or even http://aresfabrication.com/ has some.I have looked in to down and dirtys bumpers before,Those was really crappy made and not braced enough for me.And stuff like that is probably why they are so cheap because its cheaply made.

I have the JCR rear quarter panel armor on my XJ.
It has stood up to a lot of sliding into trees.
No damage to the body at all.

I have also looked into dbm, my buddy has some on his wj and loves them. My front bumper is actually an eBay special, it's been on the jeep for years and I get compliments and asked on a daily basis where I got it, so figured it was worth a try. Thank you guys for your responses, I'm gonna save the extra money and get something good

I always wondered what the point of rear quarter panel armor was! Out here in the Southwest we don't have a lot of trees to hit, we bang our lower rears on rocks, so we just comp cut and move on.
