no i'm not gonna chop the top, i'm gonna cut the hatch just below the window so it still swings up and mount a tail gate below so that will swing down. similar to a pickup truck with a cap on the back. measurements ar 51.5" long, 10.5" tall by 2.5" thick (so that it sits flush with the existing hatch. found a tail gate for $30. i'll post build picks.

I'm not a fan of the XJ-turned-pickup mod, but this is beautifully done. Hands down best chop I have ever seen ... & I've seen too many to count.

I think this would be counter productive, the only reason a tail gate works on a pickup truck is because you can walk inside the bed for loading larger items.

A tail gate that opened down on an xj would just make it more of a pain to load stuff.
