Default rear fender cut problem...Really need some advice

Hi folks! I've noticed that th po of my 91 xj cut the spot welds along the rear fender well. I sprayed some expanding foam where the sheet metal is separated. But I'm wondering if I need to do something further to regain structural integrity ? Or can I just leave it as is without causing some type of failure in the unibody? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Expanding foam is about the worst you can do. The foam will absorb water and hold it against the steel. Will cause it to rust out quick. Can you weld? I would suggest tacking the panels back together, then slather seam sealer on the joint from the inside.

That's probably what I will end up doing. I can weld, and the gap is maybe 1/4 " or less. Thank you for the advice.
