Any experience with them, I've been thinking about getting one.

You could put a large diameter PVC tank made from large diameter tube or a custom contour perfect gas welded stainless tank under the stock bumper. I wouldn't drink out of anything welded with flux core or made out of nasty mild steel. Personally, I'd find a place to mount Rotopax or other approved potable water containers. Otherwise, make sure that bumper carries a quart or two of Peptodismal.

I could see fabbing a square tube style bumper out of food grade stainless steel, but I would insist that it be purge welded with TIG.

Purging the tube with nitrogen while TIG welding would leave the inside of the tank with a nice smooth surface. Other than that, it would not be sanitary for drinking water.

This would be costly to do though, and makes that plastic tank with the wheel cutouts seem reasonably priced IMO.

As a fellow overlander I would suggest you store your water inside, and store your fuel in NATO or CDN 20L fuel cans on the rear bumper in a similar fashion to the JCR one someone posted or like this, this is how I had mine.

And guys who are saying a cross country trip is not an expedition. Depends how you cross the country... Example: http://www.expeditionportal.com/foru...tah-April-2012
