Rear axle swaps
Hey guys found a 10 bolt rear end of a Chevy wanting to know if it would be any good in my Cherokee for up to possibly 38's probably nothing bigger than 36s for the right now. Reason I'm asking is I found one on Craigslist today for 50 bucks wanna make sure its worth it before I go and waste money it already has the bracket stripped of it just needs new breaker trey welded to it has 3.42 gears in it but that will be changed to at least 4.88 gears.

This weighed a ton but way less than the kingpin 60 with 4.56 gears he got to match the rear.
I just swapped in an 8.8 and if you do a c clip eliminator I think there good up to 37's.
I would hold out for a 14 bolt if you want 37's or better

a disc brake 14 bolt should weight 500lbs. which is more than a D60 but so much more worth it (you're going heavy anyway, so who cares right?)
and a shaved 14 bolt has tons of diff clearance
slim it looks like we tried to tell you all this in your full width thread. hold out for some real axles. a D60 front and 14 bolt rear will last you a long long time without issue

So Google is my friend yet again. Plus the specs given above.
14B = About 500 lbs
D60 = About 320 lbs
D44 = About 150 lbs (just for fun)
While I don't disagree with the 14bolt being a beast that will never break, 180 lbs is not insignificant if only running 38s.
Apologies for the semi-highjack. Back on track: I agree with everybody, about the 10bolt. We wouldn't even run them in moderate performance race cars back in the day... well some people do. A 10bolt seems somewhat comparable to C8.25.

They made 2 different 10 bolts both would blow apart on 38s in no time.You want axles from a 1 ton truck like a 14 bolt dana 60 dana 70 or sterling 10.25.And for the front you need a dana 60 to handle a 38 inch tire.

I find it hard to believe that a FF D60 rear only weighs 320lbs
with that aside, I still say the cost vs. strength ratio on a 14 bolt massively outweighs the difference in weight
