I am brand new to this forum and I have been looking at lowering my Jeep to autocross it. I know it sounds a bit stupid but I think that it will be a cool and unique build and I have heard that they are surprisingly good at it. I was wondering what possible complications would be when moving the rear axle over the leaf springs to drop it an inch or two. besides new shocks and maybe a different gas tank I don't see any other complications.
I know it has been done before and I was wondering if anyone here would know what has to be done for it.
I was also wondering about any brands that sell front-end lowering coils, or would I be better off cutting my losses as well as my coils?

There is definitely at least one guy that has been down your road, havent seen him post for a while.
You want to use the "search" function and search the "modified XJ forum"
there will be invaluable info to be found, no point re-inventing the wheel

It's definitely been done before. Commanche MJ's came with a spring-under setup whereas the comparably XJ's had spring over. I don't think you'll have much that needs to change rather than the leaf perches. You drop will be more like 3"+ unless you also rework the spring/shackle setup,
Check out Tinkered Performance. Its a shop not far from me. I know the guy the runs it built a front beam axle for a dropped XJ where he chopped the axle in half and built a custom dropped center tube to clear the oil pan. I just tried looking for pictures but didn't find any. They might be farther back on his instagram.
