Picked up a new set of RE X-flex control arms, upper and lower, for $100. How much more flex do you realistically get with these over the rubber bushing style?
Als, for those of you that have experience with these style control arms, how much life can I expect with a Johnny joint over a bushing?

 

When mine failed, I replaced them with actual Currie Johnny Joints. Never had a problem since and they have been on 3 vehicles now. Only positive about the X-flex is they are actually Synergy/Teraflex joints and can be found easily and cheap. But I would recommend swapping for Johnny's if you can.

 

Another consideration is if you drive this on the street. In some states Johny joints are not street legal. Might not seem like an issue but if you get in an accident and end up with insurance not covering it you could be in for some pain.

 

Wow thats something I've never heard before. Certainly warrants investigating because I use this Jeep for overlanding so Im all over the country..

 

Companies used to label things 'for offroad use only' to indicate which items could be questionable but they seem to have stopped doing that. If you want to be safe make sure they are street use approved. Search the RE website or hit them up and ask if they have a FMVSS certificate. That should cover you liability wise (you made sure they were federally approved for on road use) but you still need to follow the state rules as well. You also want to do this for things like extended brake lines just to know that they are safe (and that you can find any recalls easily).

I see people putting these definitely not street approved 1 ton steering kits on and wonder if they know how much they've opened themselves up to liability. I wrecked my modified GTO when I was younger and that lawsuit and non-insurance covered payout put a huge damper on my teenage years.

How "kind" are Insurance companies ?

Most places, any serious deviation from manufacturer's spec, depends on the fine print..and guess who that favors
