Default Re gearing issue

Chrysler 8.25 /27 spline diff with Detroit full locker
I'm re gearing to 4:88
New ring gear is much thicker, and the pinion shaft won't go back in- about 1/4" to fat
Someone told me to grind the teeth on the ring to get it back in???
Is this correct or what do you suggest?

Yes either grind the edge of the rig gear teeth just until the pin clears or get a notched cross pin for use with lower gears.

Just take the ring gear off. As long as you mark the ring gear to carrier it will not affect anything.

what I learned from my attempt at regearing my XJ
1. The Chrysler 8.25 screw adjusters are screwy. What a PITA. When regearing to 4:88 and I think 4:56 also, with a Detroit locker there will be some grinding involved to get the cross pin back in
2. The Dana 30 stock carrier does NOT accept 4:88. I learned this after literally hours of going back n forth with shims. I could get it to .60 backlash- any tighter and it started to bind. After some research I figured it out-
I picked up a Detroit locker for the front and FINALLY have it all back together
What a hell of a job- glad I tackled it tho sometimes it's these sorta jobs where I learn the most about my Jeep.

Headed to Johnson Valley for a few days to abuse her now
See ya
