I am pretty sure that 3.55 is the lowest that you can go without a new carrier in your D30 so you should be good to go.

Since you need to regear anyway, why not just go ahead and do the rear too and put some real gears in it?

Yes but no. You can install 3.55 gears on the carrier you have, but you will need to setup the gears. It is a bit involved, google it. It may be ideal to either pay someone to do it, or swap the entire axle out. 3.55 is a common gear for the autos, so it wouldn't be hard to find another axle.

i'm with bad, just switch the whole axle. you can have it done in an afternoon for free other than cost of axle, gears will set you back 500 bux per axle.

Its cheaper to just swap a whole front axle to me.The locker you have is a lunch box kind so you can remove it easy and drop it right in the new dana 30.

With the size tires that your running I guess you must have a 5 spd trans (3.08 gear) wanting to stay with a 3.55 correct? If so it would be ok if you don't want to change.

On the front I would but another D30 with 3.55 gears the most common then have your locker installed. I don't think its a full case locker so the gears would not have to be setup again either and the locker will fit the carrier.
