Default Re-Gear question

If I re-gear to 4:10 in my 8.25, would I need a new carrier or can I just re-gear it with the existing carrier. Any help is appreciated.

Nope, the c8.25 does not require a different carrier for 4.10's

If in fact you are running a 33" tire you really need a 4.56 gear to bring it back to stock gear/tire ratio. With that you will see increased MPG's as well as more power on and off road without all the trans gear hunting on the highway.

Your D30 will need a new carrier if not using a full case locker then none required.

Good call Fred, I didn't realize he's running 33's. Good advice!

Personally I would just go with 4.88s. I was hemming and hawing over which way to go when I did my regear, but read enough posts where folks had gone to 4.10's or 4.56's and wish that they would had just gone with 4.88s.

I learned from their experience and just did it all at once. Running at 70 MPH down the highway my RPMs are running around 2700 RPMs so it definitely is higher, but sure makes for a nice driving experience. I have a few long hills on the highway near where I live and before the regear the tranny was always hunting for the right gear, first it would downshift, catch back up to speed, then upshift and slow down again etc and that was on stock tires. Was such a pain.

Now I am on 33's and can set the cruise at 70 and have no issues at all.

I have 4.10s and 33s. My speedometer is 100% accurate, meaning the gearing is back to stock now. I'm sure the 4.56s would give it more pep, but it does decent enough.

Every chart published anywhere must be wrong then as a 4.10 gear is correct for a 31" tire both using an AW4 trans. Anytime you re-gear you must change the speedometer gear for it to read correctly, no way around it.

33's 4.56
35's 4.88

Looking back wish I had gone with 4.88 gear in mine as it's mostly off road and then a lot of the time on 35" tires.
