Default Radio dash kit

Putting a new head unit and speakers in my 89 and currently there is no dash kit/adapter of any kind, the single din metal cage is just mounted in the dash face.

Is this kit worth the 2x cost of the metra "universal" type kits? Says its made of metal. Anyone used it?

Yeah that's what I had planned to do (scored a H/U and 4 speakers for $30) and want to keep it on the cheap but I saw the fancy metal one and got all star struck

If there's already a single din cage mounted in the dash and it's sturdy then just remove that cage, put the new on in, and wire that bad boy up. No need to buy the extra dash kit if something is already there and sturdy.

If someone didn't hack up the factory harness definitely spend the $5 on ebay for the wiring harness adapter.
