The plate with the two holes is for old stereos with *****; pitch it. I wouldn't bother with the plastic pieces on the sides either. That's all hidden by the dash.

 

Here are the pictures of the plastic cap things. They do not easily slide off, would I just cut them off so I can solder the wires to the factory radio wires?

 

those are crimp on butt connectors. stripped piece of wire goes in each side, then you crimp them in place

 

It looks like both ends have already been crimped, the silver thing in the middle is all folded over. Not sure if I'll be able to fit the factory radio wires in there.

 

Sorry to bring this back up, just another quick question. I noticed the ground wire on the OEM stereo is mounted with a clip-on wire connector to the metal of the headunit. The new Kenwood unit however has the ground wire (black) simply going into its wiring harness. So my question is, do I simply cut off the clip of the factory wire and solder it to the free end of the harness wire? Thanks

Just put the kenwood ground wire to a ground. If the OEM one isn't good enough, it will likely pop a fuse.

 

Where is the OEM ground wire attached inside the car?

 

Youre making this too complicated. Ground the Kenwood somehow.
