putting full width axles on need help on lift
alright so i have a 92 cherokee and i have just about all of the parts i need to do my axle swap. right now i am looking for a long arm lift. i want to fit 37s under and i have full width axles and i am wondering how big should i go. i dont want to go to high because i will be rock crawling but i really want to be running 37s. i was thinking about a 6.5 in lift and trimming my fenders a lot, but i dont know how good this would be for rock crawling. also i am putting dana 44 front and ford 9". so anything you can tell/help me would be much appreciated. and if you could put up some pics that would be even better thanks.

Try searching under full size swaps etc., there are a lot of guys who have done this and have builds on here and also look on Pirate4X4. IIRC most guys seem to have done a lot of cutting to get 37's on, but it also depends on how much you bumpstop and how much flex you get out of your suspension setup

Read threw these 44/9" builds! It's not really a this coil will give me xx" of lift... placement of axle, & coil perches as plays into it. It's harder then what lift should I buy? Not trying to bust your chops just recommending some good reading material!

thank you all i will have to do some more research to see what it is im looking for. but is there anyone that could tell me what kinda travel i should want to rock crawl. i would think i would want a lot but i have seen people do it with almost no travel at all. once again i appreciate anything you can tell me

Bump stops will prevent excessive up travel. If you have 14" travel shocks mounted and there is 4 inches until the shock bottoms out(on level ground not flexing), bump stop so there is about 1" of shock left when fully compressed. That will leave you with aprx 10" of down travel.
Someone correct me if im mistaken.

Your XJ does not maintain the suspension/body at the center of it's travel The weight of the body keeps the suspension compressed (but not fully).
The amount of up travel is determined by what is above the wheels when flexing the suspension.
The amount of down travel is the distance the wheels can move away from the body, and that distance is limited by the suspension comonents, shock length, brake lines, and possibly limiting straps.
Make sense?

ten inches all around here and i have plenty of flex. i primarily rockcrawl. as for longarms i would reccomend building your own if you are capable. as for height, you can get away with running as little as 3 inches if you wanted to.
thanks for the help i think i understand. so i just need to get good suspension components to get what i need and lift doesnt matter as much?
is it hard to make your own? i am sure i have all of the resources to do it just want to know what it takes to make it. thanks

Try going over to pirate4x4 and read up. Dont post stupid or novice questions cause they will make fun of you but they build some crazy awesome 4x4's. Just read and see how they do it to wrap your head around it. You have alot of reading to do so better start.
