I used a cut-off wheel, then 80 grit flap disc.

Those in the know will know it is not a 35 because the tubes for the 35 are noticeably smaller.

aftermarket covers--are they the same size or I guess diameter as stock.i would hate to take to much out and then get an after market cover and it hang down.i guess I could then shave the cover alittle too though.

I have heard the rib in question is a structural stiffener of the pumpkin. To prevent flexing/distorting of pumpkin, which would change the tolerances of all the important bits inside that are set-up so precisely.
I would wait until an aftermarket cover was installed.

The housing is plenty strong without the "rib" as for the covers. The vast majority of covers are smaller/higher clearance than the stock cover. If you really want to play it safe. Just trim around the stock cover. Then trim the cover a bit so it doesn't catch. That way. Even if the aftermarket is the same size you will be fine. And if an aftermarket cover is bigger(diameter) Than the stock one. You don't want that cover anyway. I got the riddler cover because of the very high clearance mounting.

I kick myself in the Begonias for not doing this when I swapped in my 8.25. Eeven had the axle on saw horses doing the disc brake mod. I kick myself twice becuase I should have done the shock relocation also!! Dag nab it!! That's what I get for being in a hurry..

Default Shaving the 8.25

This subject came up last year, it had an opposite trend as this thread. Was mostly negative.

Yeah. I did it when I had the axle out to have it regeared.

Well. I have nothing but positive things to say. I have hit it pretty hard on stuff and I've put it through some pretty tough stuff. Not a single issue.

No issues with mine either. Just sand and forest trails, but the whoops can be brutal and jumps are everywhere. My axle is still straight.
